What’s a swine flu? We don’t even have a clue.

Hey beware. Swine Flu is in the air. Just stay in your respective houses. Don’t go to public places. Hey don’t sneeze as you may be the person already infected by the virus. Hey are you working in a hospital? Oh! You are? Ok I need to stay away from you. Hey you know what? The person next to me just sneezed and did not cover his mouth. I think I need to get myself tested because I saw him eating pork yesterday. Hey what’s happening? Why do we need to be so paranoid about the situation? Can’t we just treat everyone like human beings?

A few days ago one of my friends came to office with her mouth covered with her dupatta and happened to say that one of her cousin has got swine flu. I am sure she must have repented later as everyone started staring at her as if she had captured the swine flu virus in her dupatta and was going to let it out the moment she removed it. She got so much attention that even Shah Rukh Khan may have not got when he was detained in the US. Anyway the dupatta did not stay on her face for long as she thought that may be the people around her have not recognized her yet and needs to show her face. The girl felt so dejected that she just sat on her seat pretending to be busy working but at the back of her mind thinking that she needs to give a thought to get herself tested for swine flu. However she is still hale and hearty.

Last weekend I had gone to a mall for shopping. The mall was a bit crowded as it was a weekend. I was busy window shopping, trying my best to make my way through the crowd to select my choice of merchandises. I happened to sneeze in the middle of the crowd. To my astonishment, the people with whom I had to struggle to do my shopping were no longer within my range. They had moved away from me. It took me some time to realize why I was given the liberty by the people to shop in peace. Oh! Swine flu was in the air. I had a hearty laugh. Wow! Just my sneeze had made the people aware of my presence and gave way for me. It was such a hilarious experience. I had learnt the trick and it helped me do my shopping as ease with a bit of fun.

I just don’t understand why are the people so scared that they might catch the swine flu. There are long queues of people at various hospitals wanting to get them tested for swine flu. Why don’t we realize that maybe the person standing next to us is the one who is already infected by the swine flu? I think our family doctor should be our first choice. The media is the one who is responsible for this situation. Why don't they realize that there are more number of people who die in accidents. Why don't they keep a count of those? The media does not need to hype the situation so much. I think our government has done a good job to keep the situation under control.

The swine flu has definitely come as a wakeup call for us. But rather than thinking about the situation negatively, I think that we need to spend time on improving our immunity and be happy and optimistic. And above all treat everyone the same way that we would want others to treat us- Like a human being.

Jai Hind!
