Indian Idol- Any Indian who loves his country would love to be associated with this title. On television, Indian Idol is the name given to a show that showcases the singing talent of India. I watched the 2010 ‘Indian Idol’ show and it is very difficult for me to believe, how some people who think of them to be successful in life, enjoy humiliating and insulting the not so successful people by encouraging them to do things that make them a laughing stock in front of the whole world.
The participants on this show are the citizens of India who had to sweat it out in a long queue for hours in this scorching heat to get an opportunity to participate in this show. These participants are those who believe that they have the talent to sing. Some of the participants come from remote areas of India to fulfill their singing ambition. Do you think anyone would want to participate in this show to be humiliated and insulted in front of the world on television. I think the judges are making a mockery of themselves by trying to emphasize on the participants weaknesses rather than their strengths in singing. Have the judges ever thought what is going through the participants mind at that time when he or she is being humiliated on television? Not to forget the humiliation he faces in society for the years to come.
What are the channel and the judges trying to show the world? Are they trying to show the world that this is the respect and gratitude we have towards our fellow Indians? I think all that the channel is trying to show the world is that ‘Indian Idol’ is not a show that showcases singing talent of India, but a comedy show that is trying to make their audience laugh at the cost of some of the innocent participants, and the judges enjoying the most.
To be honest I pity the judges. I had a lot of respect for Anu Malik as I am a music lover too and love to listen to his songs. He is an amazing music director. However after seeing him on the show, my regards for him have lessened. I believe that to be a good singer or a musician, you need to have a lot of love in your heart. However, all I now see in him is his ego.
As far as I am aware, a participants singing talent is thoroughly tested as he has to clear three to four rounds before he get the opportunity to sing on television and in front of the three main judges. If this show truly was a show that showcases the singing talent of India, the participants who were encouraged to make a mockery of themselves, would not have even cleared the first round.
If this is how we depict and demean our own fellowmen in such shows before the eyes of the world, I wonder how we can expect the world to treat us better.
Jai Hind!
